오늘은 would rather / would prefer 를 정복해 봅시다. 

예문을 먼저 살펴볼까요?

Today, I would rather go the cinema than go shopping. 

So the rule says that 'would rather' is used for 'preference.' 선호도를 이야기할 때 would rather를 씁니다. 

또 같은 의미로 would prefer를 쓸 수 있는데요. 

이 때는 prefer 뒤에 'to'를 꼭 붙여야 합니다. 예를 들면,

Today, I would rather go the cinema than go shopping. 

Today, I would prefer to go the cinema, than to go shopping.

We often use 'than' to give a choice between two actions and things. 'than'은 두 가지 행동이나 물건 중 선택하는 것을 보여주기 위해 사용됩니다. 

평상시에 대화 속에서는 'I would rather'라고 말하지 않고 'I'd rather'라고 줄여서 이야기합니다. 

ex) I'd rather go somewhere.

부정의 표현을 할 때는 would rather 바로 뒤에 not 을 붙여줍니다. 

ex) I'd rather not go to the cinema. 

의문문일 때는 would 와 rather 사이에 주어를 넣어주면 됩니다. 

ex) Would you rather meet me at the cinema tonight?
